Each place-getter received the following prizes;

1st Place – Trophy + $400 Westfield Miranda Voucher

Please note; place-getters are awarded for the first three male & female across the line. Participants competing for the win, must enter in the elite wave start. Westfield vouchers are courtesy of Westfield Miranda.


Schools Competition – Win $10,000 Prize Pack

Congratulations to Cronulla Public School on winning the $10,000 Prize Pack with a record setting 36% of the school population and affiliates entered into the Sydney Shire Mile!

Cronulla Public School will be awarded with a Samsung Smart TV for the school. The TV will be presented by Sally Fitzgibbons at a one-hour assembly!

The Course

The Shire Mile is Sydney’s most beautiful street run. It will give participants a spectacular view of Cronulla as they run North along Mitchell Road passing Elouera SLSC, looping at Wanda SLSC and finishing under the arch on Prince Street.

Rachel’s Runners has a range of running groups across Sydney’s South West & Southern Sydney. Rachel’s Runners was born out of a love of running and a personal mission by founder and head coach Rachel Allworth to show everyone that “yes, they can”. Rachel’s Runners ‘Learn to Run’ program has now seen hundreds of non-runners discover a love of the sport and go on to complete many runs of many distances.

Intermediate & Advanced Training Program by Sally Fitzgibbons Coach, Ian Hatfield

Ian Hatfield is a Level 4 Distance Coach accredited through The Australian Track and Field Coaches Association. Ian currently coaches a team of 15 athletes, some have won medals at Junior State and National level, in the middle distance events.

Sally Fitzgibbons trained with Coach Ian Hatfield during her teens, focusing on the 800m and 1500m. Sally has said that Ian, ‘had nutured and shaped our love for running and was a huge help in taking us to the top level in Australia.’

The mile run programs are designed to get you prepared for the mile run event, whether you’re attempting the mile run for the first time or have already completed one, you will find tips and alterations to help you along the way.

We recommend that you have sign off from your healthcare professional before starting any new fitness program. This is to ensure that you have the ability to get started and will see the benefits come event day. If you do get injured or ill throughout your training period, please revert back to your healthcare professional before starting up the program again.

Run for a Cause

sfThe inaugural Shire Mile will support the Sally Fitzgibbons Foundation, established to inspire the next generation of Aussie Kids to live active and healthy lives.

One in four Aussie kids in Australia are overweight, or obese. It’s a bigger killer than smoking, and the costs to the economy will surpass $87.7 billion by 2025. This is a real problem, with real ramifications, which requires real action.

The foundation will provide education material, plus fun and inclusive exercise programs for 5 to 12 year old children.

All participants will have the opportunity to make a one-off donation to the Foundation as they complete their online entry or go onto to create an online fundraising page through everydayhero.
